CAMILA CABELLO COVERS BILLBOARD
Just two months after departing from Fifth Harmony and launching her solo career, Camila Cabello proves that listening to your heart pays off as she graces the cover of Billboard magazine.
In her most revealing interview since leaving the group, the 19-year-old singer discusses the aftermath of quitting Fifth Harmony, taking risks, her upcoming solo album, and how she looks forward to the future.
On her need to be independent:
“I was always super open [that] I couldn’t just sing other people’s words and be totally happy with that. You have to follow and honor that inner voice. I always encouraged the girls to do the same.”
On taking the risk to quit Fifth Harmony:
“The easiest route would be to shut my mouth, sing the songs, wear the clothes and keep going. We were at the peak of our career. It’s not the safe option.”
On the girls of Fifth Harmony:
”I hoped that it would be a peaceful turning of the page and we would root for each other. But I only got love for them.”
On how she was brought up to take such risks:
“The way my mom raised me, it has always been: Don’t settle. Jump and hope you grow wings on the way down. I feel alive.”
On what success within her music means to her:
“To me, if I’m in the studio every day and I’m growing as an artist and I’m speaking from my heart, that’s success. The results don’t matter. I mean, isn’t that the goal?”
Camila’s debut solo album is due later this year. Her duet with Machine Gun Kelly, ‘Bad Things,’ recently hit #1 on the Billboard Pop Chart.
